NBA star LeBron James again took aim at President Donald Trump — and he reiterated his remark from the weekend that the president is a “bum.”
During a press conference Monday, James talked about his reaction when Trump decided to rescind his invitation to Golden State Warrior star Steph Curry — who months earlier had defeated James’ Cavaliers in the NBA finals — to visit the White House. James said he found this particularly amusing because Curry was the person who initially said that he didn’t want to go to the White House because he was opposed to Trump’s actions as president.
“My first initial response was, ‘You bum!'” James explained upon seeing the president’s tweet.
James then took on a more serious tone and explained how Trump is failing in his role as leader of the country by not even trying to understand players’ motives behind protesting police brutality during the national anthem.
“He doesn’t understand the power that he has to lead… this beautiful country,” James said. “He doesn’t understand how many kids, no matter their race, look up to the President of the United States for guidance, for leadership, for words of encouragement.”
James said that while Trump could use his bully pulpit to ease tensions and heal divisions, he only seems to want to dump more gasoline on the fire.
“He doesn’t even care,” James said.
