MSNBC's Mika Brzezinski realized she had not lost her capacity to be shocked after seeing photos of the treasury secretary and his wife.
Treasure Secretary Steve Mnuchin and his actress wife Louise Linton posed Wednesday with sheets of freshly minted $1 bills bearing his signature, which set off a social media firestorm.
"I'm appalled," Brzezinski stammered. "And nothing appalls me anymore. This is crazy."
Mnuchin -- who's worth an estimated $300 million -- is under investigation by the Office of the Inspector General for flying on a government plane with his wife to Fort Knox to view the August eclipse, and Linton mocked another Instagram user who criticized the trip and her boasts about designer clothing.
"It was like they were excited by the money and they wanted to show the world how powerful they are by holding the money in the mint," Brzezinski said.
Guest Peggy Noonan, the Wall Street Journal columnist, suggested that Linton, an actress who's appeared in a few films and TV series, might be having trouble adjusting to her fame.
"This lovely lady made a mistake a few months ago when she let everybody knows she dresses very well, with Hermes bags and stuff," Noonan said. "She just made another mistake, maybe she won't make another one."
Political analyst Rick Tyler pointed out that the photos were taken at a media event to show off Mnuchin's signature on the dollar bills, but Brzezinski wasn't impressed.
"It kind of makes it worse, actually," she said.
