Donald Trump spent the lead-up to the nearly-guaranteed government shutdown privately fuming about the prospect of missing his year anniversary party at Mar-a-Lago, the Daily Beast reports.

A White House official and another source close to the president told the Daily Beast Trump spent Friday complaining that the Republican-controlled Congress' inability to strike a deal to keep the federal government funded could make him miss “my party.”

Trump had planned a massive $100,000-per-pair party at his Florida resort to commemorate the one-year anniversary of his inauguration. The White House on Friday said the president’s trip was delayed pending the passage of a spending bill to keep the government funded past midnight Friday.

The Senate on Friday rejected that bill, meaning Saturday will likely mark the president’s one-year inaugural anniversary as well as day one of a government shutdown.
