Dick's Sporting Goods, a major sporting goods retailer that also is a major seller of firearms, announced on Wednesday that it will no longer sell AR-15-style assault rifles.

The New York Times reports that Dick's will stop selling assault-style rifles and will also stop selling high-capacity magazines. Additionally, the retailer is raising the age for purchasing firearms at all its stores from 18 to 21.

Dick's CEO Edward Stack tells the New York Times that his decision to stop selling these weapons was a direct reaction to this month's horrific school shooting in Parkland, Florida.

"When we saw what happened in Parkland, we were so disturbed and upset," he said. "We love these kids and their rallying cry, 'enough is enough.' It got to us. We’re going to take a stand and step up and tell people our view and, hopefully, bring people along into the conversation."

Additionally, Stack revealed to the Times that one of his stores had legally sold a gun to Parkland shooter Nikolas Cruz, although the gun was not the gun that was used in the shooting at the Marjory Stoneman High School.

Dick's took a similar act before in 2012, but rescinded it in 2013.
