A gun owner from Puyallup, Washington this week was arraigned on charges that he fatally shot his cousin because he believed that he was being possessed by Satan.
The Tacoma, Washington-based News Tribune reports that 27-year-old Robert Reynolds shot his cousin, 23-year-old Samuel Boren, 11 times last weekend.
The trouble started when Reynolds, Boren and one of Boren's friends smoked what police say was an "oil-infused marijuana joint" on Sunday. At one point in the evening, Reynolds and Boren got into an argument, which resulted in him pulling a gun on his cousin.
Boren's friend told investigators that Reynolds kept talking about the devil "trying to possess Boren’s body" while he pointed a gun at him. Boren tried to rush Reynolds -- apparently in an effort to disarm him -- but Reynolds fired multiple shots at him.
It took two hours after Boren's shooting for the young men to call 911. When police arrived, they pronounced Boren dead on the scene.
As Reynolds was being arrested by deputies, he allegedly told them that "I know I'm a killer but I don't feel like a murderer," as he apparently thought that he was "saving" his cousin from whatever demonic entity possessed him.
