Former House oversight chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) on Wednesday warned President Donald Trump not to be comforted by news that he is a "subject" of special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation instead of being considered a "target."
Chaffetz, a Fox News contributor, was asked during an appearance on Fox & Friends whether Trump should "breathe a sigh of relief" now that The Washington Post has reported that Mueller does not yet have enough evidence to charge Trump with a crime.
"No, I think it's just semantics," Chaffetz explained. "Of course the president is still highly involved. Whether he uses the word 'target' or not, he is not in the clear. I think Paul Manafort is in deep, deep trouble. I think they are going to continue to look at his pattens and his background and go after him."
"But the president is by no means in the clear," he repeated.
