‘Congratulations America’: Trump celebrates Mueller anniversary with bizarre tweet accusing Democrats of collusion

President Donald Trump on Thursday marked the one-year anniversary of the Mueller probe by issuing a bizarre tweet in which he accused Democrats of colluding with Russia.

“Congratulations America, we are now into the second year of the greatest Witch Hunt in American History… and there is still No Collusion and No Obstruction,” the president wrote. “The only Collusion was that done by Democrats who were unable to win an Election despite the spending of far more money!”

Mueller was appointed as special counsel last May 17 after Trump abruptly fired former FBI Director James Comey and the White House issued multiple, contradictory explanations for his firing.

Since Mueller’s appointment, he has secured guilty pleas from former Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn, as well as from former Trump campaign aides Rick Gates and George Papadopoulos, for lying to the FBI. Mueller has also indicted former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort on money laundering charges, and has filed indictments against multiple Russian nationals for committing fraud as part of a conspiracy to interfere in the 2016 presidential election.

According to a column written for Politico by a former senior adviser to multiple Republican lawmakers, there is a path to forcing Donald Trump from office that would only require three GOP senators to join forces with the Democrats.

Under the heading, "There’s a Surprisingly Plausible Path to Removing Trump From Office," Juleanna Glover -- who served as an adviser to former President George W. Bush and ex-Vice President Dick Cheney -- laid out a simple way to force an impeachment vote that would be conducted in secret, freeing GOP senators to turn on the president without fear of repercussions.

Send in the clowns: Impeachment is serious stuff, but the GOP wants a circus

Published

The impeachment of Donald Trump is not just a matter of holding the president accountable for his confessed plot to extort Ukraine at a time when Russia is engaged in both an invasion of that country and a cyber-invasion of the United States. This impeachment is also a mandatory warning to myriad potential Trump copycats that serving as a carrier of the political disease known as Trumpism is absolutely not a path to more winning, but a political death wish.
