After a brief interlude in which he praised fallen war heroes who he said would have loved his presidency, Donald Trump spent his Memorial Day attacking Democrats.

The president accused his political rivals—many of whom are upset with his administration for breaking up migrant families at the border and losing the children it took from their parents—of being "gentle and kind" to the members of a Salvadoran drug cartel who Trump has described as "animals."

"This is too good to be true for Republicans," said Trump, who broke with tradition by making stridently politicized comments on the national holiday.
