A spokesperson for Melania Trump said on Tuesday that the first lady would not be attending an event at the White House that is also being boycotted by players for the Philadelphia Eagles.
According to The New York Times, the White House cancelled an event to mark the Eagles’ Super Bowl victory after finding out that fewer than 10 players were expected to attend. Instead, President Donald Trump insisted that he would hold an event celebrating America.
We will proudly be playing the National Anthem and other wonderful music celebrating our Country today at 3 P.M., The White House, with the United States Marine Band and the United States Army Chorus. Honoring America! NFL, no escaping to Locker Rooms!

A spokesperson for Melania Trump told Yahoo’s Hunter Walker that the first lady would also be skipping the event.
A spokesperson for Melania Trump tells me “there are not plans for her to attend” the president’s “Celebration For America” that he’s holding instead of meeting the Eagles today.

President Trump was infuriated when he was told hardly any Eagles players were planning on attending the celebration today — well aware of what the optics would be if he had to pose with less than a dozen players. But he was insistent on holding an event anyway, I'm told.
