U.S. Special Counsel Robert Mueller, the lead investigator into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, says that Paul Manafort—a former Trump campaign manager—tried to meddle with the evidence presented by a potential witness.
"There is a lot going on behind the scenes," said legal analyst Carrie Cordero in an interview with CNN's Anderson Cooper.
According to a filing in DC District Court on Monday night, Mueller has asked to send Manfort to jail as he awaits his trial. Trump's former campaign manager is out of jail under house arrest on a $10 million unsecured bail.
Mueller's team said it had "little confidence that restrictions short of detention will assure Manafort's compliance" with the law and that he would continue to commit crimes while out on bail.
