According to White House pool reports, President Donald Trump praised the possible relationship between himself and North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un.

"I feel really great," Trump said. "We’re going to have a great discussion and, I think, tremendous success. It will be tremendously successful. And it's my honor. And we will have a terrific relationship, I have no doubt."

The North Korean leader, however, struck a different tone.

"Well, it was not easy to get here," Kim said through a translator, according to an official transcript. The past worked as fetters on our limbs, and the old prejudices and practices worked as obstacles on our way forward. But we overcame all of them, and we are here today."

"That's true," Trump replied. "Thank you very much."

According to an additional pool report, Trump began the group meeting by saying, "working together, we will get it taken care of."

"There will be challenges ahead but we will work with Trump," replied Kim. "We overcame all kinds of skepticism and speculations about this summit and I believe that this is good for the peace."

Trump again promised the group "we will solve it."

"I look forward to working on it with you," he also said.
