Trump says immigrants ‘infest our country’ — and quintuples down on lie that ‘Democrats are the problem’

Published

on

President Donald Trump on Tuesday quintupled down on the lie he has repeatedly told by once again falsely blaming Democrats for his own immigration policy.

“Democrats are the problem,” Trump wrote. “They don’t care about crime and want illegal immigrants, no matter how bad they may be, to pour into and infest our Country, like MS-13. They can’t win on their terrible policies, so they view them as potential voters!”

In fact, the current policy of separating immigrant parents from their children is entirely due to actions by the Trump administration. Administration officials including Attorney General Jeff Sessions and aide Stephen Miller have even publicly stated that the policy is being used as a purported “deterrent” against immigrants trying to enter the country illegally.

Additionally, Trump’s use of the word “infest” to describe immigrants’ behavior is part of a broader pattern of dehumanizing rhetoric aimed at foreigners. Earlier this year, Trump said that undocumented immigrants in the United States were “animals” who couldn’t even be described as “human,” although the White House later insisted that the president was only talking about MS-13 gang members, not immigrants as a whole.

California mayor resigns after saying no ‘good person of color’ has ever been killed by police

A southern California mayor resigned after making a racist statement about black Americans killed by police officers.

Temecula Mayor James Stewart apologized and tried to explain his statement in an email, in which he claimed he didn't “believe there’s ever been a good person of color killed by a police officer” locally, reported The Press-Enterprise.

“Unfortunately I did not take the time to proofread what was recorded," Stewart told the newspaper. "I absolutely did not say that. What I said is, and I don’t believe there has ever been a person of color murdered by police, on context to Temecula or Riverside County. I absolutely did not say ‘good.’ I have no idea how that popped up.”
