Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY), the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, on Monday criticized President Donald Trump for defending Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Cheney made the remarks on Twitter following a bizarre press conference featuring both the American and Russian presidents.

"As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, I am deeply troubled by President Trump’s defense of Putin against the intelligence agencies of the U.S. & his suggestion of moral equivalence between the U.S. and Russia," Liz Cheney wrote.

"Russia poses a grave threat to our national security," the stalwart Republican added.

During the press conference, Trump called Putin's defense of election meddling "strong" and "powerful."
