On Monday, President Donald Trump held a press conference announcing a new trade deal with Mexico, reportedly meant to supplant NAFTA.
“It’s a big day for trade. A big day for our country,” Trump announced.
Before the start of the press conference, a reporter asked Trump about John McCain’s legacy. The president has received criticism for not paying due respect to the late senator.
According to a reporter at the conference and the pool report, president Trump heard and ignored the question. “In the Oval Office just now I asked
@realDonaldTrump if he had any thoughts on the legacy on John McCain. He heard me but did not answer,” wrote ABC News Chief White House Correspondent Jonathan Karl on Twitter.
Others also had no luck getting the president to reply. “President Trump didn’t respond to any shouted questions about McCain or others,” according to the White House pool report.
“Mr. President any thoughts on John McCain?” reporters repeatedly shouted at the ender of the presser, as Trump continued to ignore them.
