As UN ambassador Nikki Haley prepared to deliver her remarks announcing her resignation Tuesday, media analysts wondered who her replacement will be.
On CNN, reporters floated several options, including Dina Powell and the president’s daughter, Ivanka Trump.
Citing Ivanka’s already unprecedented role as White House advisor, reporters wondered if she’s angling for a position that involves more prominence on the international stage.
“Who would fill her shoes?” a CNN reporter wondered. “Let’s talk about senior women within the president’s senior team. Ivanka Trump, possibly?”
Adam Schiff: GOP senators should allow Bolton to testify or face the music when his book comes out
Appearing on CNN's "New Day," Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) -- who is leading the impeachment prosecution of Donald Trump on the Senate floor -- said Republicans can now either agree to let former national security adviser John Bolton to testify about the president's Ukraine scandal or face the wrath of voters when the former White House aide's book comes out.
Late Sunday the New York Times reported, "President Trump directly tied the withholding of almost $400 million in American security aid to investigations that he sought from Ukrainian officials, according to an unpublished manuscript of a book that John R. Bolton, Mr. Trump’s former national security adviser, wrote about his time in the White House."
CNN’s Avlon mocks Republicans after their victory lap talking points were ‘shredded’ by Bolton’s book
On Monday, CNN fact-checker John Avlon noted that former National Security Adviser John Bolton's book has blown up the talking points Republicans in Congress were using to paint the arguments in the Senate trial as a victory for President Donald Trump.
"After the defense team's arguments opened on Saturday, Republicans greeted cameras with talking points at the ready," said Avlon, playing clips of Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA) and Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) both saying that White House lawyers "shredded" the case made by impeachment managers, as well as displaying a tweet from Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC) that also used the word "shredded."
‘Rattled’ White House was blindsided by Bolton revelations: report
In an appearance on CNN's "New Day," on Monday morning, Axios reporter Jonathan Swan revealed that the Donald Trump's White House was "rattled" by revelations contained in former national security advisor John Bolton's upcoming book -- and that they appeared to be unaware of them until they read them in the New York Times.
Speaking with hosts Alisyn Camerota, and John Berman, Swan was asked how the White House was responding to the bombshell revelations that blow a huge hole in Trump's impeachment defense.
"The New York Times knew about the content of the Bolton book before you say the press shop at the White House did. What itself is the significance there?" host Berman asked.
