White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders on Wednesday condemned what she called "attempted violent attacks" against Bill and Hillary Clinton and Barack and Michelle Obama.

Sanders released the statement after the Secret Service intercepted potential explosive devices sent to the two couples.

“We condemn the attempted violent attacks recently made against President Obama, President Clinton, Secretary Clinton, and other public figures," Sanders said in the statement. "These terrorizing acts are despicable, and anyone responsible will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law."

Sanders referred to the perpetrators as "cowards."

The White House, CNN studios in New York City and billionaire George Soros have also recently been the targets of suspicious packages.
