On Thursday, iconic Watergate reporter Carl Bernstein unloaded on President Donald Trump's latest "rage-a-holic" actions while interviewing with CNN's Brooke Baldwin.

A day after the midterm election, Trump fired his Attorney General Jeff Sessions and appointed Matthew Whitaker to act as the new attorney general in the interim.

However, this move has been criticized as Trump trying to regain control over Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

Bernstein said that Trump's sporadic actions showed that he was behaving as if "his back is against the wall."

Bernstein said that Trump does not have the authority to appoint Whitaker if his goal is to "undermine" Mueller's investigation.

He added, "We are watching a president whose back is against the wall. Who is trying to get a get out of jail free card."

"He is far beyond Watergate," he said.
