Democrats pick up first GOP House seat -- Jennifer Wexton defeats Barbara Comstock in VA-10

Congressional Democrats have claimed their first big House win of the night.

Multiple pollsters are projecting that Democrat Jennifer Wexton has defeated incumbent Rep. Barbara Comstock in Virginia's 10th Congressional district.

Cook Political analyst Dave Wasserman projects that Wexton has won by ten percentage points, which was in line with what polls conducted in the district were predicting.

VA-10 is a district in Northern Virginia that voted heavily for Hillary Clinton in 2016 and was seen as one of the top pickup opportunities for Democrats heading into the 2018 midterms.

The race was a shock for a district that hasn't voted for a Democrat since before 1980. Northern Virginia is far more moderate than Comstock's voting record, so she drew the ire of moderate Republicans and Democrats who oppose her and President Donald Trump.

Democrats even went so far as to run negative ads calling her Barbara Trumpstock.
