As Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian government continues closing in, the excuses made by Trump and his associates appear increasingly flimsy.
As part of a docket of legal documents requesting he serve no jail time, General Michael Flynn is claiming that he didn't realize it's against the law to lie to the FBI. In January of 2017, Flynn was interviewed by two FBI agents and he reportedly misled them about his meeting with a Russian diplomat.
Even Fox News hosts appear unconvinced that a top general didn't realize it's illegal to lie to the FBI. Fox News anchor Chris Wallace voiced his skepticism about General Michael Flynn's excuse.
"If Michael Flynn didn't know it's a crime to lie to the FBI he's the only person I know who didn't know that. That's standard operating procedure. You don't lie to the police, you don't lie to the FBI. I'm sort of surprised he's even making that argument," Wallace said.
"It's laughable," he added.
