Officials within the FBI and Department of Justice spent “weeks” discussing President Donald Trump’s possible obstruction of justice before the firing of FBI Director James Comey and the appointment of special counsel Robert Mueller, CNN reported Thursday night.
The report confirmed many previously reported details about how assistant AG Rod Rosenstein discussed wearing a wire to bust Trump and Comey’s conversations with Trump regarding the prosecution of national security adviser Michael Flynn.
CNN reports there were “different conversations at different times with different people.”
The breaking point, the report reveals, was when “the President then raised the stakes, telling NBC News in an interview that he fired Comey because of the ‘Russia thing.'”
