Trump backtracks blaming Dems for possible shutdown -- after saying 'I am proud to shut down the government'

President Donald Trump broke another promise in a quick video produced for Twitter Thursday.

"Democrats are absolute hypocrites," Trump begins, being hypocritical himself.

He said that the Democrats have always been supportive of "walls and fences" on the US-Mexico border but now when he wants to build a wall they refuse. It's factually inaccurate, no one has ever proposed building a 2,000-mile long wall on the border.

Indeed, Democrats and Republicans have spent billions in funding to build and repair the existing border fence. Since that fence already exists, many are against the idea of spending $5 billion more to build a wall.

“If we don’t get what we want...I will shut down the government,” Trump told Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer and House Speaker-designate Nancy Pelosi in an oval office meeting Wednesday. “I am proud to shut down the government for border security, Chuck, because the people of this country don’t want criminals and people that have lots of problems and drugs pouring into our country.”

It's unclear if Trump realized he'd made a huge mistake and was backtracking or if he even recalls the promise of accountability in the Oval Office meeting. The broken promise comes amid Trump's new reelection campaign slogan: "Promises Made, Promises Kept."
