President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence met with the Democratic leadership in the Oval Office on Tuesday.
Incoming House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) sparred over issues like immigration, the cost of the border wall and the government shutdown.
"It's a great honor to get Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer with us," Trump said.
Trump started by boasting about bipartisan criminal justice reform. "It'll be up for a vote very shortly," he said, about the First Step Act.
"And then we've got the easy one, the wall," Trump joked.
"It's called funding the government Mr. President," Schumer shot back.
Pelosi and Trump then fought over the government shut down.
"The fact is the House Republicans can bring up this bill immediately and set the tone for what you want," Pelosi said.
Trump then began to rant about the border wall.
"We need border security. Nancy, Nancy. We need border security. Need border security. People are flowing into our country, including terrorists. We have terrorists. We caught ten terrorists over the last for a short period of time. Ten," Trump insisted.
"These are very serious people. Our border agents, all of our law enforcement, has been incredible what they've done. But we have caught ten terrorists. These are people who are looking to do harm. We need the wall. We need it more than anything. We need border security, of which the wall is just a piece. Chuck, did you want to say something cuesta Mexico?"
"Here's what I want to say -- we have a lot of disagreements here," Schumer told him. "The Washington Post gives you a whole lot of Pinocchio's because they say you constantly misstate how much of the wall is built and how much is there," Schumer pointed out.
