Devastating CNN supercut shows how Trump's own intel chief blew up the president's Russia narrative

CNN on Wednesday delivered a supercut of quotes from President Donald Trump placed back-to-back with quotes from Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats, who on Tuesday contradicted many of the president's rosy assessments of his own foreign policy.

The video starts with Trump standing on the White House lawn and declaring that, "We've won against ISIS -- we've beaten them."

It then cuts to Coats telling Congress on Tuesday that "ISIS is intent on re-surging and still commands thousands of fighters in Iraq and Syria."

The next pair of quotes dealt with North Korea's nuclear program.

"Chairman Kim, we have a great chemistry, and we're well on our way," Trump said last year. "You know, we signed an agreement! It said we will begin the immediate denuclearization."

"North Korea will seek to retain its WMD capabilities," Coats said Tuesday. "And it's unlikely to completely give up its nuclear weapons and production capabilities."

Finally, the video showed Trump's and Coats's dueling assessments of Russian hackers trying to sabotage American elections.

"President Putin, he just said it's not Russia," Trump said last summer during his infamous Helsinki press conference with the Russian president. "I will say this: I don't see any reason why it would be."

"Not only have the Russians continued to do in 2018, but we've seen indication that they're continuing to adapt their model," Coats said.
