Multiple allies of President Donald Trump -- ranging from former national security adviser Michael Flynn to former personal attorney Michael Cohen to longtime ally Roger Stone -- have now been either indicted or convicted of lying to federal investigators about interactions they've had with Russian nationals.
Despite all this, however, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders is insisting that all of these indictments and convictions of Trump's closest political allies have "nothing to do with the president."
When asked about Sanders' statements by CNN's John Berman on Tuesday, former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper laughed out loud at the notion that none of these indictments should at all concern Trump.
"One thought that occurred to me when I heard that quote was, 'Well then you shouldn't have a problem with the completion of the investigation,'" he said. "It's just very curious that this collection of characters that were close to the president -- certainly during the campaign and afterwards -- have been found guilty of lying about their relationship with Russia."
