As the government shutdown stretched into the 25th day Wednesday, Republicans and Democrats are at an impasse over funding for the president's border wall.

As federal workers continue to suffer with no pay, the debate over the wall continues.

Yet, the controversy over the wall might serve as a welcome distraction for Donald Trump. On CNN Wednesday, host Michael Smerconish spelled out how controversy over the shutdown is serving Trump.

"Every minute we're talking about the Wall we're not talking about Mueller and that's the point," Smerconish said.
