Trump could call 2020 election ‘fake news’ and ‘refuse to leave’: MSNBC analyst
Author Christina M. Greer had a horrifying warning for Republicans while an MSNBC panel discussing the inaction of national security in wake of Russian meddling in the 2016 election.
Because President Donald Trump rejects the idea that Russia meddled in his election, American national security has not been directed to generate protections. County governments aren’t protected from hacking. Disinformation campaigns continue to thrive on social media.
“If voting wasn’t such a fundamental right and wasn’t so important to the maintenance and success of our democracy, we wouldn’t see people working so hard to keep it away from so many millions of Americans from the inception of our nation until this last election,” Greer explained to the MSNBC panel.
She explained that what happened in 2016 was important and it isn’t just that Russia interfered then but the fear they’re about to do it again in 2020.
“We have another presidential election coming up in 2020. And if the — if the votes don’t go Donald Trump’s way, he can say it’s fake news and he doesn’t want to leave,” Greer warned. “I mean, there are so many problematic entities, and … he’s got this Russia Trump Tower Moscow deal going on. While the election is going on. Obviously, incentives for Putin to want Trump in office for all the reasons that Hillary Clinton you know, we also need to make sure we remember, when LBJ, with the assistance of Congress — right?”
In that case, she described two powers working in conjunction together to do the right thing and pass the Civil Rights Act, the Voting Rights Act and the Immigration Act.
“And what we’re seeing is Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell and the Republican Party systematically trying to erode not just the voting rights act, but all three of those acts incongruence at the same time. And that’s what makes this so dangerous,” she said.
