During his first Oval Office address to the nation to argue for a Mexican border wall, President Donald Trump claimed he wants to build a steel border wall “at the request of Democrats” — though the idea was his.
Days prior, the New York Times reported that Trump proposed a steel barrier instead of a concrete one because he thought Democrats would like it better.
“I informed my folks to say that we’ll build a steel barrier,” Trump said on January 6, adding that Democrats “don’t like concrete, so we’ll give them steel.”
