Trump smacked around by retired GOP lawmaker for incoherent border plan that is keeping the government shut down

President Donald Trump's abbrassive rhetoric is hindering efforts to end his shutdown of the federal government, former Rep. Charlie Dent (R-PA) explained on CNN on Saturday.

Earlier in the day, Trump had lashed out at Speaker Nancy Pelosi as being "under total control of the radical left" because she has refused spending taxpayer money to build his border wall -- the one Trump famously promised would be paid for by Mexico.

"The president's own rhetoric is not helpful," Dent explained.

"He is incapable of articulating plan to establish operational control of the border, which is far more expansive than just simple barriers or walls," he continued.

"So I think that's really been a big part of the problem, the president's own rhetoric," he added.
