White House staff have completed the preparations for President Donald Trump to declare a national emergency to build his border wall, CNN chief White House correspondent Jim Acosta reported Thursday.
President Donald Trump is scheduled to announce the emergency declaration on Friday, following the expected vote by Congress to pass a budget bill that did not fund his border construction.
During the 2016 campaign, Trump had promised Mexico would pay for the wall. When that did not happen, Trump shut down the government, but Capitol Hill refused to pay for his wall.
The White House believes they can still get U.S. taxpayers to pay for his wall via the emergency declaration.
Details are "done" on Trump's national emergency declaration, I'm told. Current planning is for announcement to come tomorrow after spending bill vote in House.
