Education Secretary Betsy DeVos may be on her way out of the White House after becoming a "target" of President Donald Trump's, New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman revealed Thursday afternoon.

"DeVos is a favorite target of POTUS behind scenes," Haberman tweeted. "Most [West Wing] aides have expected her to be part of any cabinet shuffle."

News of the reported tension came after the Department of Education Secretary proposed a budget that would eliminate funding for the Special Olympics.

Earlier on Thursday, Trump announced that the Special Olympics would be funded after an outcry over DeVos' budget.

DeVos claimed in a statement following the president's about-face that she is "pleased and grateful the president and I see eye-to-eye on this issue, and that he has decided to fund our Special Olympics grant."

"This is funding I have fought for behind-the-scenes over the last several years," the Education Secretary said.
