Paul Ryan warns that Trump is in real danger of losing in 2020

Former House Speaker Paul Ryan this week admitted that there's a good chance that President Donald Trump goes down in defeat in 2020.

Treasure Coast Palm reports that Ryan on Monday gave a lecture in Vero Beach, Florida, in which he reflected on his tenure in Congress and looked ahead to the 2020 presidential campaign.

In particular, Ryan worried that Trump and his overbearing personality would crowd out any discussion about what policies would be enacted under a Democratic administration and Congress.

"The person who defines that race is going to win the race," he said. "If this is about Donald Trump and his personality, he isn’t going to win it."

According to FiveThirtyEight's aggregation of opinion polls, Trump's approval rating has never cracked 50 percent, even as he's overseeing a strong economy in which unemployment has fallen under four percent.

In fact, FiveThirtyEight's historical polling averages show Trump has the worst net approval rating -- that is, approval rating minus disapproval rating -- of any president since Harry Truman.
