House Republican leader warns Trump against infrastructure deal with Democrats

The Republican Minority Whip in the House seems to be warning President Donald Trump against an infrastructure package.

According to Politico reporter Melanie Zanona, Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) said that the Republican members in the House don't have a taste for any landmark legislation that might be an addition to the deficit.

"Minority Whip Steve Scalise says he does NOT think there is an appetite in the GOP for a $2 trillion infrastructure bill," Zanona tweeted Monday.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) are scheduled to meet with Trump Tuesday. While an agenda for the meeting has not been set, the group is expected to discuss a bipartisan deal on a huge infrastructure package that Trump promised during the 2016 campaign.

The president reportedly hates the plan that his own administration came up with. He could find a partnership with Democrats, but it may alienate members of Trump's party.

The legislation would be the biggest test yet of Trump's power over the Republican Party.
