'This is not Westeros': Dem leader breathes fire on Trump for hopelessly trying to be 'king' of Congress

Democratic Majority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) on Tuesday blasted President Donald Trump for acting like a king from the "Game of Thrones" series of books and television shows.

At a Democratic caucus press conference, Jeffries was asked if he expected Trump to roll back limits on presidential power that have been in place since President Richard Nixon (R) was ousted from the White House.

"I'm not sure I would characterize it as an all-out war [on congressional oversight] at this moment," Jeffries replied. "Certainly, he is conducting himself in an inappropriate way."

"The Founding Fathers did not want a system where a king was in charge," he continued. "Donald Trump appears to believe that he is a king. This is not Westeros, it's Washington, D.C."

According to Jeffries, "the Founding Fathers were very clear" about their choice against a constitutional monarchy.

"They chose to have a democratic republic," he explained. "We are a separate and co-equal branch of government. We don't work for Donald Trump. We work for the American people."
