Trump is relying on GOP's big guns to win him Iowa as trials pull him out of state: report

Due to his multiple legal headaches, Donald Trump doesn't have any rallies scheduled in Iowa as the state's caucuses approach. One way he's making up for the gap is by employing some conservative allies to do his campaigning for him, The New York Times reported.

"To start its efforts in January, the campaign last week held events with Gov. Kristi Noem of South Dakota, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia and Eric Trump, one of Mr. Trump’s sons," The Times' report stated.

Missouri Republicans want Biden off ballots as payback if Trump disqualified over insurrection

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Missouri’s Republican candidates for governor, eager to win over voters in a party that remains largely in the grip of former President Donald Trump, have begun laying the groundwork to take political retribution against President Joe Biden if the U.S. Supreme Court disqualifies Trump from again serving as president.

If the Supreme Court blocks Trump from the presidency by finding he engaged in insurrection in the lead-up to the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol, the Missouri candidates claim Biden could — or should — be disqualified as well.

Clarence Thomas put on the spot as court prepares to hear Trump ballot ban case

A newly established code of conduct put in place by the Supreme Court may come back to haunt Justice Clarence Thomas as the court prepares to hear testimony on whether Donald Trump can be banned from the ballot in 2024.

With the Colorado ballot case known as Anderson v. Griswold to be heard later in the year, Democratic lawmakers are putting Justice Thomas on the spot to recuse himself due to his wife's links to the Jan. 6 insurrection at the heart of the case.

As MSNBC's Hayes Brown explained, there are grave concerns about Thomas' impartiality — moreso than usual — with Democrats focusing on Ginni Thomas in their letter demanding he stay out of the case.

According to the letter delivered to the jurist from the Democrats, "A Justice should disqualify himself or herself in a proceeding in which the Justice’s impartiality might reasonably be questioned, that is, where an unbiased and reasonable person who is aware of all relevant circumstances would doubt that the Justice could fairly discharge his or her duties," later continuing, "The Justice knows that the Justice…or the Justice’s spouse… has a financial interest in the subject matter in controversy or in a party to the proceeding, or any other interest that could be affected substantially by the outcome of the proceeding.”

The letter added, “The Justice or Justice’s spouse…is known by the Justice:…(iii) to have an interest that could be substantially affected by the outcome of the proceeding.”

According to Brown, the letter may just be a case of Democrats "Shouting into the wind," but, at the same time, it puts the court, and Thomas, under increased scrutiny as it prepares to make a historic ruling on the seldom applied 14th Amendment.

Get ready for some raucous Republican congressional primaries in Ohio

A handful of Ohio congressional primaries have drawn a parade of colorful Republican hopefuls. In two cases, the retirement of long-serving incumbents in relatively safe seats set off the nomination scramble. In another, Republican candidates are trying again to knock off a supposedly vulnerable Democrat who cruised to reelection in 2022.

The races in Ohio’s 2nd, 6th, and 9th U.S. Congressional districts aren’t the only races to draw a crowd. For instance, U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan, R-OH, has drawn four Democratic candidates including former Marion Mayor Scott Schertzer. But they’re notable for the type of candidates and potential for overheated rhetoric.

'He knows he's lying': Ex-Trump press secretary recalls him telling her to lie

Former White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham recalled that during her time on Donald Trump's team, the ex-president told her to lie to the press because all that needed to happen was they say the lie enough.

The conversation she had with CNN's Jim Acosta was about Jan. 6 and Trump's so-called belief that he won the 2020 election. Trump recently renewed the claim of the "big lie" that he won, but Grisham said that there is no doubt in her mind that he knows it isn't true.

MSNBC panel laughs at Elise Stefanik's humiliating 'audition' to be Trump's running mate

Three former Republicans appearing on MSNBC on Sunday afternoon burst out laughing at a clip of a manic Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) rattling off reasons why she would consider being Donald Trump's running mate should he make it to the November ballot.

During an appearance on NBC's "Meet The Press," the New York Republican breathlessly ticked off how proud she would be to be a part of a second Trump administration before guaranteeing the four-time indicted ex-president would win as she beamed at host Kristen Welker.

"Stefanik hit almost all of the MAGA talking points," MSNBC host Alex Witt prompted. "Couple questions here: I'm curious, might they be coordinating? Do you think she reaches out and says, 'What kind of verbiage should I use?' Is she auditioning to be Trump's vice president? Can you see her appeal for Trump?"

"There is no one in America running harder for Trump's vice presidential slot than Elise Stefanik. That is it," former GOP Rep. Dave Jolly (FL) smirked causing co-panelists Kurt Bardella and GOP strategist Susan Del Percio to start laughing.
