Termed-out DeSantis faces bleak future after presidential bid flop: report

Any hope Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) might have had that he could beat Donald Trump for the 2024 Republican Party's presidential nomination appears all but dead — and that could mean his political future will meet the same fate, according to a report.

The report from NPR states that a substantial number of Florida Republican voters have been repulsed by his decision to challenge the former president, and now he faces being termed out as governor with nowhere to go in 2026.

As NPR noted, DeSantis has seen his star dim since he used his landslide victory over Charlie Crist as a launching pad to run for president which, in turn, infuriated some of the people who have been his biggest supporters.

"Despite winning a landslide election in the state two years ago, DeSantis hasn't been able to win over enough base GOP voters," NPR's Ashley Lopez wrote, offering a quote from Florida voter Sally Maltais who recently attended a Trump rally in Hialeah.

According to Maltais, "He backstabbed our president. And now I have no respect for DeSantis. I'm sorry. I don't. I won't vote for him again."

As NPR's Lopez notes, Florida voters may not get that opportunity again after 2026 anyway.

Florida State Rep. Randy Fine (R), who switched his allegiance from DeSantis to Trump, stated the current governor has few political paths to take after being termed out.

"I think that's part of the reason why he did run [for president]" Fine claimed. "He wanted to run for president as the governor of Florida and not as the former governor of Florida."

"I mean, Rick Scott is our senator," he elaborated. "Marco Rubio is our senator. I don't see either of them going anywhere. And so there's no kind of obvious off ramp for him to go when his term as governor is finished."

Trump targeting Latino voters by claiming to be 'victim' of communists: report

Donald Trump is trying to win over Latino voters by presenting himself as a victim of socialists.

The former president chose Hialeah, Florida – which has a 95-percent Latino population – for his rally last week to counter the Republican presidential debate, and he raged about his felony indictments as "persecution" for what he called his resistance to communism, and local supporters say that message could resonate, reported Axios.

Michigan judge says only Congress can keep Trump off of the 2024 ballot

A Michigan Court of Claims judge on Tuesday agreed with Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson that her office lacks the authority to disqualify former President Donald Trump from the ballot for the 2024 Republican primary election.

The ruling by Judge James Robert Redford determined that arguments as to whether Trump should be barred based on wording within the 14th Amendment are “nonjusticiable,” or outside the jurisdiction of the court. Instead, he said their political nature could only be decided by Congress.

Enacted in the wake of the Civil War, Section 3 of the 14th Amendment disqualifies from public office any individual who has taken an oath to uphold the U.S. Constitution but then engages in insurrection or rebellion against the United States, or gives aid or comfort to its enemies. No prior criminal conviction is required.

Trump insiders at war with each other over donations and future White House staffing

As the 2024 election looms, tensions are breaking out between Donald Trump's closest aides and an outside policy think tank made up of ex-Trump officials who are sucking up donations by misrepresenting their influence.

This is all coming to a head based upon a memo obtained by the Daily Beast, sent from Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita —Trump's top campaign advisors — to the America First Policy Institute (AFPI) which has been tasked with creating a policy blueprint for a potential second Trump administration.

As the Beast is reporting, Trump's inner circle is furious with the AFPI for sucking up donations that they feel should be going into 2024 campaign coffers while selling themselves as having the ex-president's ear.

In the memo, Wiles and LaCivita wrote that AFPI, does not "speak for President Trump or his campaign” before adding, "Therefore, these reports about personnel and policies that are specific to a second Trump Administration are purely speculative and theoretical. Any personnel lists, policy agendas, or government plans published anywhere are merely suggestions.”

Former Trump trade adviser Peter Navarro also piled on AFPI, telling the Daily Beast, "All they are doing is misusing the Trump brand to raise money to hand out extravagant stipends and pay extravagant rent for their policy operation that doesn’t reflect Trump policy. They oughta shut that place down now and just turn things over to Susie Wiles.”

Navarro added, "Trump knows where to find people to hire. Susie knows where to find people to hire."
