Wolf Blitzer triggered the heated debate with Rep. John Garamendi (D-CA) when he chose to ask about calls for Biden to resign rather than the president's recent press conference, which the California Democrat called a "tour de force."

'Possible' Trump is communicating with Putin during campaign: National security expert

Noting that at the same time that President Joe Biden is meeting with the leaders of the NATO nations, Donald Trump is meeting with Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, a former adviser to the former president said it was entirely possible that Trump is using the Hungarian strongman as a cut-out to stay in contact with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Appearing on CNN with host Jim Acosta, former Trump national security adviser John Bolton claimed he wouldn't be surprised if Trump was in communication with the Russian president during the run-up to the 2024 presidential election.

After watching footage of Trump with the prime minister down at Mar-a-Lago, Acosta asked, "Is it possible that Trump is communicating to Putin through Orbán? What do you think?"

"Well, it's possible, it's possible," Bolton conceded. "[That] Trump is communicating with him a lot of different ways. You know, Trump believes that the relations between countries are entirely bound up in the personal relationships between the heads of government. So he thinks if he has a good relationship with Vladimir Putin then US/Russia relations are fine."

"And I think what we're seeing here is he's getting ready for what he expects will be his second term and I don't I don't see any good news it."

Trump campaign managers participation in 'landslide' profile might blow up their faces

Following a segment on journalist Tim Aberta's interview with Donald Trump's campaign managers where they boasted about the great job they are doing, MSNBC's Johnathan Lemire and Willie Geist suggested the former president has a history of viciously turning on aides who overshadow him.

In Alberta's "Trump is planning for a landslide win," for The Atlantic, campaign managers Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles brag about the outstanding job they have done getting the Trump campaign in a better position than it was in 2020 when he lost to President Joe Biden, going so far, as Alberta put it, to compare the two previous Trump campaigns as "clown shows."

Rev. Sharpton nails 'offensive and elitist' Dem lawmakers for ignoring Black Biden voters

Reacting to the growing number of Democratic lawmakers who have publically called for President Joe Biden to step aside for another 2024 presidential nominee, the Rev. Al Sharpton warned on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," that the party is in danger of losing Black voters.

Speaking with co-host Willie Geist, Sharpton noted that the overwhelming number of the lawmakers who have taken that stand are white, which he suggested is indicative of a tone-deaf party.

Asked about the possibility of Biden stepping aside, Sharpton replied, "I'm hearing it, yes, but I'm also hearing, not so fast because, if not Biden, then how do we do a transition that doesn't put us in a more dangerous position?"

"I was in Milwaukee yesterday doing a eulogy for a Black man killed by some hotel guards," he recalled. "People in an uproar about that are saying to me, you cannot win Wisconsin without Milwaukee and Black turnout. And they were saying to me, well, we have questions about Biden's age, but where do we go? Are they going to try to undermine Kamala Harris?"

"So, I think that if we're talking a coalition, you've got to remember the basic roots of that coalition: Blacks, Latinos, and labor," he continued. "You can't just take for granted, we're going to go where some people just want to go and abandon someone who has been with us."

"I looked at the press conference last night and said, where are the Black reporters?" he told the MSNBC host. "I mean, we're looking at all whites questioning Biden, and Black voters are supposed to get in line? I think that a lot of the people that are stepping out there taking things for granted. You notice that maybe only one member of the Congressional Black Caucus has said Biden ought to step aside."

"Congressman Jim Clyburn (D-SC) will be on [MSNBC's] 'Politics Nation' with me tomorrow night. I'll be guided a lot by what he has to say," he remarked. " Don't forget, it was the stonewall of the Black voter and then the Latino vote that put Biden in nomination. And for us to be left out of these discussions I think is offensive and elitist."

Focus on Project 2025 is driving Trump's campaign 'a little bit nuts': MSNBC contributor

During a segment on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" about the controversial Project 2025 that Donald Trump is fleeing from, regular contributor Elise Jordan stated it is the best weapon against the former president and his campaign and it is getting under their skin.

Speaking with co-host Wille Geist, NBC correspondent Vaughan Hilyard set the table by noting that the authoritarian Project 2025 proposed firing as many as 50,000 civil service workers and replacing them with Trump loyalists.

As Jordan argued, revelations like that are frightening the public and that is the last thing they want to deal with when they feel that they have President Joe Biden on the ropes.

"You could destroy the infrastructure of government that's taken so many decades to build up," Jordan, a former speechwriter for President George W. Bush, explained.

'We have to get our act together': Morning Joe regular raises red flag on Trump coverage

Reacting to President Joe Biden's largely successful press conference on Thursday night, MSNBC "Morning Joe" regular Mike Barnicle diverged from the topic at hand and criticized the press — including himself — for over-dwelling on the president's "flubs" while disregarding Donald Trump's more egregious comments.

Speaking with co-host Wille Geist and "Way Too Early" host Jonathan Lemire, Barnicle said a little self-reflection by the Washington media mob would go a long way.

"What's amazing to me is the amount of attention we pay in the media, all of us, to the flubs," he began before noting Biden meant to say Vice President Kamala Harris and substituted Trump's name.

"You know, Vice President Trump instead of Vice President Harris — things like that," he continued. "That stuff has come with the dinner with Joe Biden for 40 years and we regard it each and every time he makes a flub, it's shocking. It's not shocking."

"What is truly shocking in terms of balance, and you referenced it, is Donald Trump's, not flubs, his incendiary rhetoric. Rhetoric aimed at dividing the country, at turning one group of people against another group of people, of threatening institutions like NATO, of threatening a country like Ukraine, things like that," he added.

"We pay less attention to his rhetoric than we do," before adding a mocking "'Oh, my god, he called her Vice President Trump.' No, we have to get our act together and balance this thing out."

'I think he should stay in': Swing state voters on CNN change position after Biden presser

President Joe Biden worked to put fears about his age and fitness to rest with a rousing press conference at the NATO summit, where he demonstrated a commanding grasp of foreign policy issues, took potshots at former President Donald Trump, and reiterated his commitment to remain in the presidential race.

But for the first time, suggested CNN political commentator David Chalian, there seemed to be a slightly different tone about that commitment.
