They'd rather be on Hannity blasting the Green New Deal than helping Texans: Beto O'Rourke
People's lives are at risk, and so far, ten people have died from the cold in Texas. In a massive emergency, Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) took to Fox News' Sean Hannity to complain about the Green New Deal, saying that Democrats are to blame for the state's disaster.
Speaking to MSNBC on Wednesday, former Rep. Beto O'Rourke explained that the state is facing such a massive crisis with people desperate for help, but the leaders are spending more time spinning it on right-wing news instead of doing their jobs. Former Gov. Rick Perry (R-TX), who was the Secretary of Energy, said that Texans would rather freeze than have help from the federal government. President Joe Biden sent in the National Guard with fuel and other things to help.
"What you are seeing right now in Texas, Nicolle, is on the heels of a terribly bungled COVID vaccine roll-out," said O'Rourke. That comes after "more than 4 million Texans filed for unemployment in the worst recession since the Great Depression. Following the governor and state leaders for most of the pandemic, absolutely ignore the science and the best public health advice. This is what you get when people who don't believe in governments are running your government. They'd like to spend more time on Hannity talking about the Green New Deal and wind turbines than they would in trying to help those who desperately need it."
Political strategist Matthew Dowd pointed out the suffering many are experiencing with no power and now no water. O'Rourke noted that in many parts of the state there are people without food because restaurants and grocery stores are closed.
"This is one of the very worst disasters we have ever seen, and it's happening almost across every one of the 254 counties of Texas right now," O'Rourke said. "This is really bad. A lot of people are suffering, and they're suffering unnecessarily."
He went on to dispel the lie from Gov. Abbott that wind and solar is the reason the state doesn't have power. In fact, the wind and solar, which aren't winterized, outlasted what experts thought they would. Oil, gas and nuclear power have suffered considerably under the cold weather, freezing equipment and even gas itself.
