Maddow explains significance of Pence's lawyer choice: He has 'stuff to worry about'

MSNBC's Rachel Maddow has been dogged in researching and detailing the case that Vice President Mike Pence is not innocent when it comes to retired Lt. Gen Michael Flynn and knowledge of the Russian interactions during the campaign.

Maddow said Thursday that Pence hiring lawyer Richard Cullen as his personal attorney is evidence that he is running scared.

"It’s very interesting that the vice president has felt the need to hire private counsel, right?" she said. "The specific private counsel he’s chosen? Who knows if we should extrapolate from those previous experiences in previous Republican presidential scandals. … But, you know, it would appear that Vice President Mike Pence does have stuff to worry about here. … It’s not surprising that the vice president has no found himself a private lawyer, but oh what a private lawyer he has got."

Cullen also had involvement in other Republican scandals like former President Nixon's Watergate and President Reagan's Iran-Contra.

Pence has a long string of claims that Maddow said in March "cannot be true."

“It is impossible this is the first Mike Pence has heard of it," she said. "Mike Pence was the head of the [Trump] transition, while all of those news stories of Mike Flynn being on the Turkish government’s payroll were breaking. He was the head of the transition when Mike Flynn was being vetted for the National Security Advisor job. He was the head of the transition when Congress formally notified the head of the transition that Mike Flynn appears to be on a foreign government’s payroll. He was the head of the transition when Mike Flynn’s personal lawyers came and told the transition that Mike Flynn maybe needed to register as a foreign agent.”
