Mitch McConnell begged fellow Republicans to talk the White House out of bad Federal Reserve nominees

Senate Leader Mitch McConnell reportedly begged his caucus to tell the president that his nominees to the Federal Reserve are a really bad idea.

According to Washington Post White House reporter Seung Min Kim, the moment came during a luncheon with the caucus behind closed doors.

"McConnell and Thune privately urged Senate Rs at lunch today to reach out to the White House to relay concerns about problematic nominees, I'm told," she tweeted Tuesday.

"There are some names out there that aren’t confirmable," said Sen. John Thune (R-SD). "And we would tell them that, if asked."

Trump has nominated Herman Cain and Stephen Moore, both of whom have hefty baggage that have headlined the news for weeks.

Moore was outed for being a deadbeat dad who refused to pay for child support until the court came to take his home in Virginia. He also owed the IRS at least $75,000 in back taxes and his economic policies are generally regarded by experts as ridiculous.

Late-night comedian John Oliver outlined why both men are dangerous appointees to the Fed in a hilarious segment Sunday. Cain, in particular, had an unfortunate interview with Oliver when he was at "The Daily Show." Oliver was able to convince Cain to look into the camera and literally say anything he was asked.

“I think the chances of getting both through I would say at the moment are pretty steep,” Thune told Politico.
