GOP's FBI 'whistleblower' was suspended for leaking sensitive info to Project Veritas: report

The Republicans' investigation of the FBI hit yet another embarrassing snag as NBC News reported on Thursday that Garret O'Boyle, an FBI special agent the GOP billed as a whistleblower, was previously suspended for leaking classified information to the right-wing group Project Veritas.

"Lawmakers learned about the reason for O'Boyle's suspension, which was previously unreported, in testimony that Jennifer Moore, executive assistant director of the FBI for human resources, provided to the House Judiciary Committee's Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government," reported Ryan Nobles.

"Portions of her testimony are included in a letter that top Democrats on the Judiciary and Weaponization panels wrote to Garland, alleging that O’Boyle lied to the committee about leaking information prior to his suspension."

"House Democrats are now accusing O'Boyle of lying to the committee and are referring the matter to Attorney General Merrick Garland, according to a letter obtained by NBC News," said the report.

Project Veritas is best known for spearheading sting operations against liberal politicians and media organizations. The group was recently plunged into controversy after its longtime leader, James O'Keefe, left his position amid reports that staffers were internally making misconduct allegations against him. Last month, Project Veritas filed a lawsuit against O'Keefe, accusing him of wasting the organization's money on personal expenses.

This is not the first time the credibility of House Republican whistleblowers has been put on the line.

Two other whistleblowers brought in to discuss FBI misconduct last month, Stephen Friend and Marcus Allen, turned out to have had their security clearance revoked for a series of transgressions including promoting conspiracy theories about the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

And in a separate House investigation into Biden's family, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) admitted that they can't even find the whistleblowers they were planning to question.
