Friend and officials confirm Oregon militant Ammon Bundy's capture

Oregon militant leader Ammon Bundy was taken into custody by federal officials on Tuesday night, the Oregonian reported.

Bundy's capture was first reported by one of his supporters, Pete Santilli, on a YouTube broadcast. KATU-TV confirmed Bundy's arrest, adding that three other people were taken into custody.

Santilli also stated that two people were shot during the encounter that led to Bundy's arrest. Oregon Public Broadcasting (OPB) confirmed that Harney District Hospital in Burns, near the wildlife reserve that Bundy's group seized, is on lockdown and that there was a "shooting incident."

Update, 9:43 p.m. EST:CNN also reported that Bundy was captured, citing an unidentified law enforcement official. OPB also confirmed the news, citing a friend of his.

Update, 10:00 p.m. EST:The Oregonian reported that Payne, along with Ammon Bundy and his brother Ryan, were arrested, as were Joe "Captain O" O'Shaughnessy and Brian Cavalier, a "bodyguard" for the Bundys. They were all charged with conspiracy to impede a federal officer by force, a federal felony. One militant was reportedly killed during a shootout with authorities, but their name has not been released.

Update, 10:13 p.m. EST: The FBI and Oregon state police said in a statement that another group member, Shawna Cox, was arrested.

Update, 10:30 p.m. EST:Various reports identified the person killed during the encounter with authorities as LaVoy Finicum, who vowed earlier this month that he would rather die than be arrested.

Update, 10:52 p.m. EST:OPB reported that Santilli was also arrested.

Update, 11:40 p.m. EST:The Los Angeles Times reported that Cliven Bundy, who instigated a standoff against federal officials in 2014, described Finnicum as a martyr after being informed of his death.

"We believe that those federal people shouldn’t even be there in that state, and be in that county and have anything to do with this issue," the elder Bundy said. "I have some sons and other people there trying to protect our rights and liberties and freedoms, and now we've got one killed, and all I can say is, he's sacrificed for a good purpose."
