The Senate confirmed Judge Merrick Garland to be attorney general this Wednesday, in a 70-30 vote.

During his confirmation hearings last month, Garland vowed to depoliticize the Justice Department after it was embroiled in numerous political scandals under the Trump administration.

"I am not the president's lawyer. I am the United States' lawyer," he said.
