Video of a woman being violently shoved to the ground by an angry golfer spurred words of outrage from MS NOW host Stephanie Ruhle on Friday.
The video appeared in a Callaway Golf advertisement — in which a woman is punished for reaching for a man's golf club — had the MS NOW hurling expletives on live television.
“I think this was ignorant, stupid and lame," said Ruhle. "They look like a pack of losers.”
The digital media company Good Good Golf reportedly lost its 3-year contract with Callaway after airing an ad showing a male golfer knocking a fellow female golfer to the ground.
Good Good and Callaway have apologized for the ad, which was quickly taken down.
For Good Good Golf, it has become a company-wide crisis, after Golf Galaxy and its parent company, Dick's Sporting Goods, pulled their merchandise from stores and their online marketplace, reports show.
Good Good founder Garrett Clark apologized in a video posted to X.
“I personally want to apologize for playing the role in this skit, in this ad at the magnitude that I did, and then on Good Good's behalf and the Good Good marketing team's behalf," Clark said. "I wanted to say an apology as well, because this is not at all what we stand for."
Ruhle disagreed.
“But here's what's so lame, right?” she told her panel. “This isn't like somebody said one dumb thing on a hot mic. There were marketers, there were executives. That's like — Callaway was like, ‘we don't know how to attract the youngs. Let's get some creators in there and maybe Good, Good could do it.’ Do they do they have such little faith in the youngs that this is what we think is cool these days?”
When guest Mark McKinnon argued that the apologies (”Mistakes were made”) fell short, Ruhle agreed — with expletives.
“But also when they say, you know, we try to be inclusive, that's some trigger b------- nonsense," she said. "This isn't about inclusivity. This is about decency, humanity, and using your brain.”
