When your chance for a Covid shot comes, don't worry about the numbers

When getting vaccinated against covid-19, there's no sense being picky. You should take the first authorized vaccine that's offered, experts say.

The newest covid vaccine on the horizon, from Johnson & Johnson, is probably a little less effective at preventing sickness than the two shots already being administered around the U.S., from Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna. On Saturday, the Food and Drug Administration authorized the Johnson & Johnson vaccine after reporting it showed about 66% effectiveness at preventing covid illness in a 45,000-person trial. No one who received the vaccine was hospitalized with or died of the disease, according to the data released by the company and FDA. As many as 4 million doses could be shipped out of J&J's warehouses beginning this week.

Texas newspaper slams Abbott's 'mistake': Why end the mask rule and make things worse?

Before issuing his order to end mask mandates, Gov. Greg Abbott must not have looked at the recent numbers of coronavirus deaths in Texas. Or worse, he did and decided that the 59 deaths reported Monday is good enough. Either way, the governor’s order Tuesday to end the statewide mask mandate and business capacity restrictions is a mistake. Even with recent improvement in COVID-19 case totals, hospitalizations and deaths, the pandemic is not over. Another spike is possible before enough people are vaccinated to finally squelch the disease’s spread, and Abbott’s order makes it more likely we’ll...

Top Texas utility regulator steps down amid outrage over blackout disaster

On Monday, The Dallas Morning News reported that the top utility regulator in Texas has resigned amid backlash to the catastrophic collapse of the state power grid in the face of a freak winter storm in February.

"Walker, who made $201,000 as chairwoman, said she accepted responsibility for her role in the power outages, but called on other responsible parties to do the same.
