Democrats 'champing at the bit' to make Mike Johnson's darkest fears a reality: report

House Speaker Mike Johnson warned a room of Christian conservatives earlier this year about what Democrats would do with a House majority, and a new report reveals Democrats are already preparing to do exactly that.

Johnson hysterically warned a room full of Christian conservatives earlier this year that Democrats "will turn every committee of Congress into an investigative body, and they’ll go after the president’s family, the Cabinet, his donors and friends" if they take back congressional majorities, and Rolling Stone reported that they are “chomping at the bit” to turn those fears into a reality.

“Obviously there’s enough corruption to go around,” Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA), the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, told the outlet. He said much of his senior staff joined him in California during the recess to begin “mapping and planning this all out.”

“We know the center of all this is the Trump crime family — it starts there,” Garcia said.

Garcia said the committee will focus on four areas “out the gate” – Trump family corruption, the Department of Homeland Security and ICE, corporate corruption, and the administration’s handling of the Epstein files.

Among the people Democrats want to bring before the committee are Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and her close adviser Corey Lewandowski.

Rep. Christian Menefee (D-TX), the committee’s newest member, said the next Congress will be a “reckoning.” He called the first half of Trump’s term “a criminal enterprise with a presidential seal on it.”

“Democrats haven’t had the power to do much about it,” Menefee said. “That changes in January when we take back the House.”

Rep. Greg Casar (D-TX), chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, said Trump “made $2.2 billion in his first year back in office while working families paid more for everything.”

“Every day, Trump gives Congress something new to investigate,” Casar said. “Democrats need to be ready to dig into any and all of it on day one.”

Menefee and Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-FL) both said they would support impeachment proceedings against Trump and members of his Cabinet. That would be the third time Trump has been impeached.

“Congress has a constitutional duty to look into all of it,” Menefee said, "and if that evidence leads to impeachment proceedings, I’ll be there.”
