Sen. Darline Graham (R-SC) has managed to embarrass herself yet again when asked about a basic policy issue, MS NOW's Jen Psaki reported on Tuesday evening.
Graham, the sister of the late Sen. Lindsey Graham, was appointed to serve out the remainder of his term, and was nominated to serve a full six years with the endorsement of President Donald Trump — which in itself, Psaki noted, was something of a surprise.
When Graham was appointed, said Psaki, "most people ... believed she would serve as kind of a placeholder honoring his memory until a more qualified candidate came along to fill the seat permanently." And Trump's endorsement was met with raised eyebrows — particularly, said Psaki, after her massive flub when asked about Taiwan during the primary runoff debate.
Graham responded by saying she's "not that informed" on national security — an issue her brother was incredibly passionate about — but that she nonetheless does "support the military."
"You're running for the U.S. Senate. That wasn't a particularly difficult question," said Psaki. It was such an embarrassment, she noted, that during a rally last night, "Donald Trump tried to do kind of a little cleanup for Darline Graham."
"She's tough, she's strong, and she's the perfect person to carry on the legacy of her brother," Trump said in the clip. "Very different people. She's very much about that affordability. He was very much about foreign affairs."
"Very different people. He was very much about foreign affairs. And she's much, much more about affordability," Psaki repeated. While that's "not the worst spin," she said, "that same day, Darline Graham was asked about her position on affordability, and here's what she said."
In the new clip, faced with the question, "is there some example of a piece of legislation you would introduce to help drive down the cost of things like that?" Graham responded, "We'll see when I get there."
"Lady, you're there," exclaimed Psaki. "You're already there. You were sworn into the United States Senate six weeks ago. You are a senator, a member of the U.S. Senate. How is that her answer? But Trump has gone all in."
