Lauren Boebert blasted for turning charity event into QAnon conspiracy attack

U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) decided to turn a local D.C. Boys & Girls Club into a tool of her relentless attacks against President Joe Biden Thursday morning, after Wednesday's annual Congressional Baseball Game.

Every year for the past 112 years (except for 2020, due to the coronavirus pandemic) members of Congress have joined together to participate in the national pastime – these days a rare moment of sportsmanship and bipartisanship.

Paul Krugman schools Marco Rubio after he calls Biden's Build Back Better plan 'Marxism'

On Thursday, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) took to Twitter to denounce President Joe Biden's social spending plans, claiming that they constitute "Marxism."

Rubio's comments were swiftly ridiculed by Paul Krugman, political commentator and Nobel Prize-winning economist. "Ah yes, remember that stirring line in The Communist Manifesto: 'Workers of the world, unite to spend 1.2% of GDP on popular programs over the next decade!" replied Krugman.

Koch machine seeks to deliver a deathblow to Biden as it mobilizes against the Build Back Better Act: report

On Thursday, Rolling Stone reported that the Koch dark money machine is revving up to take down President Joe Biden's reconciliation package, commonly referred to as the "Build Back Better Act" — and is spending tens of millions of dollars in the effort.

"Koch-aligned groups are together spending millions of dollars on advertising, targeting moderate Democratic lawmakers, and pushing their influence in the halls of Congress to whittle down or outright kill the sweeping policy package, which would represent the largest expansion of the social safety net in the past 50 years and the biggest step toward addressing climate change in U.S. history," reported Andy Kroll and Geoff Dembicki.

Trump adds fresh pressure to Greg Abbott over demand for a forensic election audit

Gov. Greg Abbott is failing to appease some inside his party — including former President Donald Trump — with the "forensic election audit" that the state announced Thursday.

Trump released a letter to Abbott on Thursday urging him to add audit legislation, which could allow a review of mail-in and in-person ballots across the state, to the agenda for the current special session agenda. Instead, the secretary of state's office announced later that day that it was already starting to audit the 2020 election results in four of the state's biggest counties.

Austin and other military leaders defended President Joe Biden's removal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan after nearly 20 years of war, and the "Morning Joe" host rebuked Republican lawmakers' treatment of the officials during a congressional hearing, which prompted Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) to apologize on their behalf.

The replacement Line 3 pipeline -- the first new conduit from Canada's oil sands to US refineries built in years -- is "substantially completed" and will be ready to move oil starting Friday, Enbridge announced.

The Can$7.3 billion project had faced pushback from environmental activists and indigenous groups, but it was much less controversial than other proposed pipeline projects that failed to be green lit.

Pentagon officials say Afghan govt's collapse was rooted in 2020 US deal with Taliban

Senior Pentagon officials said Wednesday the collapse of the Afghan government and its security forces in August could be traced to the 2020 US agreement with the Taliban signed in Doha that promised a complete troop withdrawal. Joe Biden has faced the biggest crisis of his presidency over the withdrawal in Afghanistan, drawing criticism from Republican US lawmakers.

This week, the US House and Senate started hearings of a congressional review on the troop pull-out in Afghanistan and the war itself. During its second day, General Frank McKenzie, the head of Central Command, told the House Armed Services Committee that once the US troop presence was pushed below 2,500, as part of President Joe Biden's decision in April to complete a total withdrawal by September, the unravelling of the Washington-backed Afghan government accelerated.

A racist delusion has gone from the far-right fringe to the halls of Congress

A growing number of Republican pundits and politicians are entertaining or outright embracing the "great replacement" theory — a once-fringe white nationalist worldview that in recent years has crept into mainstream political discourse.

This theory, apparently first popularized in 2012 in a self-published book by the eccentric French novelist and diarist Renaud Camus, proposes that a cabal of liberals or global elites is attempting to "replace" the white European populace with nonwhite or non-European minorities. This idea had very little traction in America until recently, at least outside the fringes of the far right. But over the past few years, some prominent conservatives who are not overtly white supremacist have begun to embrace this notion publicly, claiming that their political opponents are enacting pro-immigration policies in order to diminish the electoral power of white voters.
