Joe Biden

Biden is fueling the flames of a paranoia that Trump stoked before him

The news that Biden's administration is to provide legal support for unaccompanied migrant children in several American cities will doubtless be welcomed. The federal initiative is said to provide attorneys to represent children facing deportation proceedings after having entered the country on their own at the southern border.

But when examining United States border policy holistically, the move doesn't go nearly far enough. It's a drop in the ocean when considering the escalating humanitarian crisis — and it is a crisis — that exists as a result of US border policies, foreign policy and influence.

Days after launching his campaign, Arizona GOP Senate candidate Justin Olson was repeatedly asked a simple question during an appearance on a local political talkshow: Did Joe Biden win the 2020 presidential election?

But Olson, who until recently served as chief financial officer for the pro-Trump student group Turning Point USA, refused to give a yes-or-no answer.

Steve Bannon rants about 'stolen' election just hours before Jan. 6 Committee votes on criminal referral

Conservative broadcaster Steve Bannon continued on Tuesday to promote lies about the 2020 presidential election despite reports that the January 6 Committee will vote to refer his case to the Justice Department.

Bannon, who served as an adviser to former President Donald Trump, has said that he will defy a subpoena from the January 6 Committee. The committee was expected to vote on a criminal referral for Bannon later on Tuesday.

White House says Trump deserves to be held accountable for attempting to overthrow the government

The White House made it clear on Tuesday that they have no intention of protecting former President Donald Trump from any accountability involving the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol and attempts to overturn the 2020 election.

In a statement about Trump's lawsuit declaring executive privilege to protect him from submitting information about Jan. 6 and what led to it, the White House made it clear they have every intention of turning over information.

Pro-Trump senator hid in closet with a dozen other Republicans while Capitol riot unfolded: report

On Tuesday, The Washington Post reported that Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) hid in a closet with roughly a dozen other Republican senators while the Capitol attack took place on January 6.

According to the report, during that time many of the lawmakers huddled there questioned whether they would still go through with a plan to object to the counting of electors in closely divided states won by President Joe Biden — which the rioters were attempting to influence. Some did change their minds, but Tuberville, a former college football coach newly elected to the Senate, did not.

Second Amendment ‘sanctuaries’ pop up across the country as Republicans rebel against federal gun laws

Republicans funded by the National Rifle Association have borrowed from the ideology of the slave-holding South to try to nullify federal laws about guns.

The most extreme proponents of Second Amendment "sanctuaries," claim, like slaveholders more than 150 years ago, that the federal laws are invalid and can be nullified by states. Abolitionists also did this. Northern states passed "personal liberty laws" to try to nullify the federal Fugitive Slave Acts of 1793 and 1850.

Here's why Trump may not really want to be president again

Some allies believe Donald Trump may prefer being the former president than shouldering the burden of serving another term as chief executive.

Vanity Fair reporter David Drucker, author of "In Trump's Shadow," told MSNBC's "Morning Joe" that some of the twice-impeached one-term president's associates doubt that he'll mount another campaign for the White House in 2024.

Texas bill to block COVID-19 vaccine mandates for employers failed in Legislature after business groups rallied against it

Bills intended to block any Texas entity, including hospitals and private businesses, from mandating COVID-19 vaccines for employees failed to pass the Texas Legislature before lawmakers adjourned the third special legislative session early Tuesday morning.

Signs that the legislation was in trouble came early as business groups spoke out against the proposals. Even though the issue had been added to the session agenda as a late priority by Gov. Greg Abbott, the House's version of the bill was unable to muster enough support to be voted out of committee. The Senate's proposal pushed by Sen. Bryan Hughes, R-Mineola, was quickly pushed out of committee but did not have the votes for approval by the whole chamber.

Federal program touted by Ivanka gave millions to unqualified firms -- and was also used to promote then-President Trump

A $6 billion federal program created to provide fresh produce to families affected by the pandemic was mismanaged and used by the Trump administration for political gain, a new congressional report has found.

As a ProPublica investigation revealed last spring and as the new report further details, the Farmers to Families Food Box program gave contracts to companies that had no relevant experience and often lacked necessary licenses. The House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis, which released its report last week, found that former President Donald Trump's administration did not adequately screen contractor applications or identify red flags in bid proposals.

One company that received a $39 million contract was CRE8AD8 LLC (pronounced “Create a Date"), a wedding and event planning firm. The owner compared the contract to his usual work of “putting tchotchkes in a bag."

Manchin sparks fury with demands for work requirement and $60K income cap on child tax credit

Progressives responded with outrage following Sunday night's report that right-wing Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin has told the White House that he would only support prolonging the expanded child tax credit—a key component of his party's potentially historic investment in improving social welfare—if it includes a work requirement and limits benefits to households with annual incomes under $60,000.

"The White House needs to tell Joe Manchin 'no'... Six months of appeasement brings stuff like this that will guarantee Dem losses in 2022."

Impeachment lawyer slams Trump's 'chutzpah' for playing a 'delay game' with MAGA riot documents

On CNN Monday, former House impeachment counsel Norm Eisen laid out why former President Donald Trump has no grounds to sue to block the release of White House records to the January 6 House committee.

"I do not think that this lawsuit that was filed today is going to result in the withholding of these documents," Eisen told anchor Chris Cuomo. "The president is essentially making two arguments, Chris. He's saying, first, this is an overbroad subpoena, the committee is asking for too much. And second, that even if it's not overbroad, these documents are protected by executive privilege, the confidentiality that the law enshrines for presidential communications."
