Trump's top economic adviser ridiculed after bashing 'myth': 'That should do it'

President Donald Trump's top economic adviser was brutally ridiculed Monday after he bashed a "myth" that many voters care about during an interview.

Kevin Hassett, the White House national economic adviser, joined Larry Kudlow on Fox Business to discuss the Trump administration's economic record ahead of the midterm elections. Hassett claimed that Americans are much better off than when Trump took office for a second time, even though gas and grocery prices have both skyrocketed as a result of the administration's war against Iran.

Hassett also took time to describe the affordability crisis that many voters are suffering through as a "myth," a comment that left several political analysts stunned.

"All of the things that have made the economy great mean the affordability crisis is a myth," Hassett said, citing increased capital spending and wage growth for some workers. "Sure, they can talk about gasoline. But Trump's right. It's gonna drop like a rock soon."

Observers reacted to Hassett's claims on social media.

Molly Jong-Fast, a political commentator and MS NOW contributor, sarcastically mocked Hassett's talking points in a post on X.

"Yeah, that should do it," she wrote.

Joe Walsh, a former Republican lawmaker from Illinois, panned the White House adviser's poor messaging ahead of the midterms.

"One heck of a closing argument," Walsh posted on X.

Thomas Pain, a frequent Trump critic who posts on social media as "Tea Pain," also piled on.

"Way to bring it home, losers!" he posted on X.
