Disgraced former Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem took a jab at a Texas-born country music star for campaigning with the Democratic Senate candidate — and got decimated by a blunt one-liner.
Kacey Musgraves shared a stage briefly with Texas state lawmaker and Presbyterian seminarian James Talarico, who in recent polls has largely been leading scandal-plagued state Attorney General Ken Paxton and is hoping to be the first Democrat to win statewide office in Texas in three decades. Talarico posted photos from the event to Facebook, writing, "Thank you for having me last night, Kacey Musgraves!"
Noem took to X with a screenshot of the post, and replied, "I’ll take @ellalangleymsic (sic) over Kacey Musgraves any day. And if I’m choosin’ Texas, I’ll take Ken Paxton over James Talarico."
Musgraves, however, had a swift clapback.
"I don’t think you have a dog in this fight but if you did you would have shot it," she wrote.
Musgraves is referring to how Noem bragged in her own book about shooting a puppy she had deemed untrainable.
In an additional bit of humiliation, multiple commenters on X noted that Ella Langley, the country star Noem had held up as better than Musgraves, appears to have untagged herself from Noem's post.
Noem oversaw the beginning of mass deportation policy in President Donald Trump's second term, but was unceremoniously fired earlier this year — in part because Trump was outraged by how much taxpayer money she spent on an ad campaign promoting herself.
